Celebrating and supporting farmers and explicitly supporting home-grown fare, The Yellow Pear, Canada’s first solar food truck, is a beautiful match for Niagara. Wife and husband chef-owners, Nicole and Jason Sawatzky, met as lab partners at NC’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute and are now living the proverbial dream. They are fun, cheeky and clearly loving what they do; this is one cute couple on a truck.
Beautifully presented, gourmet-fare, such as; seared trout, crustless quiche, or corn and peach salad (the menu changes daily and with the season), has garnered this truck a strong local following. A collaboration with the Upper Canada Cheese Company has yielded “Niagara’s best grilled cheese”; with basil, strawberries, Niagara Gold and onion jam. The farm salad, featuring produce from over twenty farms is crunchy, savoury, sweet and loaded with veggies; each bite is a farmer’s story waiting to be heard.
