In a humble locale by the Allanburg Bridge, The Indian Flame is a sleeper hit; serving up some of the best North Indian food in Niagara. Always welcoming- owners Asha and Rika Baghria, carefully prepare made-to-order curries, home-made parathas, and mango lassies for a loyal group of profs, armchair travellers and recent retirees.
The decor is simple and the pace of delivery may make you watch the clock, but the culinary experience is worth the wait. A mark of talent in the kitchen is that every Niagara Local has a different favourite order: saag paneer, aloo gobi, onion bhajee, mutter paneer and alo tikki chaat. Pizza and burgers are also on the menu for those who can’t make the leap, but biryani or butter chicken prove a more authentic point of introduction. Finish off with a traditional sweet; the syrupy Gulab Jamun or a creamy, cardamon Raas Malai.
*In summer, cyclists and bikers linger on the patio with a pint and watch ships along the Welland Canal. Traditional Breakfast also available.
