Moray Tawse, VP of First National, is an avid lover and collector of fine wines and vineyard properties, owning vineyards in Argentina, Chile and France. His choice out of hundreds of acres all over the world was this 200 acre parcel on the Niagara escarpment because of its soil, heavy with limestone minerality.
So-special-is-the-soil, that Percheron horses till the earth to keep heavy farm equipment from packing it too heavily. Sheep graze the pastures and 150 laying hens keep them company. Tawse’s winemaker Paul Pender creates fabulously special wines like the 2008 Meritage, Bordeaux blend. At $60 a pop, it’s decadent and luxurious; a treat for celebs like Jim Cuddy, who know that Tawse, beautiful and sophisticated, can really throw a party.
