One of the latest to bring the craft of brewing to Niagara, owners Chris Pontsioen and Matt Swan, have created a striking destination-brewery. Within the brick walls of a former 1800’s church, the architecture has been carefully preserved to show off industrial details, while brewmaster John Legassicke, works behind the scenes turning out fresh, unfiltered and unpasteurized beers.
A favourite for brunch, the Bavarian Breakfast Wheat, has an easy, citrusy taste. The Bang on Bitter, is exactly that, and the Long White Cloud Pale Ale, carrying 3 styles of hops, is more bitter still. The award-winning, German Style Black Lager, (Schwarzbier), one of Silversmith’s signature brews, is made with dark-roasted German Malt from a recipe dating back to the late 1300’s.
On weekends Silversmith draws local and visitors eager to experience the brewery as a pop-up pub. Thursday – Sunday Tide & Vine Oyster Co. offers up oysters and po’ boy sandwiches.
