With baited breath farmers and fiddlehead lovers alike wait for the little fern fronds to pop out of the ground. For all but a brief harvest season, in the last week of April, first week of May, fiddleheads are picked by hand for about six weeks (depending on the weather).
Nick and Nina Secord own and operate North America’s largest fiddlehead farm right here in Niagara, growing wild harvested ostrich fern fiddleheads. Each fiddlehead is picked by hand and is rich in iron, potassium and antioxidants.
