At Konzelmann, the massive, weighty stone structure close to the road makes an impression. Its palatial appearance oozes pomp and opulence. There is a lovely, raised observation deck to view the vineyard and the lake; a great viewpoint to pause for a glass. Inside the interior is rich in wood and stone, heightening the drama and adding to the European-palace vibe. Herbert Konzelmann, boasts old world wine lineage, being the great grandson of Friedrich Konzelmann, a German winemaker since 1893.
Today, the family tradition in wine making continues. The 2009 Riesling Reserve 4 Generations, as the name suggests, carries the craftsmanship of four generations of family to the vintage. It is created on a low yielding vineyard with a one bottle return for each vine. Herbert, along with his grandson Fabian Reis, and winemaker Eric Pearson, have created a portfolio with incredible depth and breadth that has won accolades nationally and internationally.
