Former 9-to-5’ers, Reg and Lydia, ditched the media day-jobs to pursue a passion for pure olive oils and balsamic vinegar. Their interest in oils lead to the discovery of the prevalence of counterfeit oil production, where olive oil is blended with cheaper oils, like canola. Out of a desire to educate and provide only the purest form of olive oils, Della Terra was born.
Imported from South America and Europe, each in their season, the oils and vinegars are sensory and chemically tested to ensure purity and flavour. Walls are lined with silver fustis and the therapeutic tasting environment embodies the zeitgeist of Niagara: small-batch, artisan, terroir driven.
Visitors are invited to sample the speciality oils and vinegars; some so sweet and complex that licking the tasting cup seems almost mandatory. The truffle oil takes a weeknight meal over the edge.
