Caroline Cellars

Rick and Frieda Lakeit have been growing grapes on this vineyard property since 1978, (and Frieda’s tomatoes), making them the fourth generation of Lakeit farmers here. In 2000 they decided to take the plunge and build a winery of their own.

Named in honour of Rick’s late mother, Caroline, who’s portrait proudly hangs in the tasting room, the pine-panelled winery is a casual affair that has a distinctly Canadian (Northern Ontario) kind of feel. Small batch, VQA wine and icewine are their signature; (2009 Sauvingnon Blanc Icewine winning accolades from Rick Vansicle and the All Canadian Wine Championships, 2011).

The tasting room offers every wine they make (free tasting by the way), and the Farmhouse Cafe serves market-inspired food all year round inside or on the patio. Weddings look idyllic here.
