Part cafe, part artisanal flower shop, part antique store, Bremfield’s may just put Main St. on the map. Cake stands perch atop vintage glass cases, all housing delicious, rustic home-made sweets. Espresso or coffee is available; fair trade and organic. Servers (likely one of the owner’s daughters) wear linen aprons made by Mennonites from Ohio, and vintage tins are full of Spanish lavender, hydrangeas and tulips.
The historic Humberstone building is full of character; wide-plank wood floors and brick walls set the stage for a local cafe experience enhanced by the owners’ sense of style. A variety of sweet treats are available (including full pies to go), and a daily savoury special pulls a lunch crowd. Buttertarts and a bouquet of flowers. What’s not to love?!
Named after the family, but not the family’s name; ‘Brem’ makes up the first letters of their daughters and ‘field’ is the translation of their Dutch last name. The ‘Bremfield’s’, brimming with enthusiasm, are about the nicest bunch of people you’d hope to meet.
