After a day of sipping 20 Valley wines, August offers a relaxed meal in an unstuffy atmosphere that will match the day’s experiences and won’t let you down. Chef Beth Ashton has created a loyal following for her concise menu of one choice of each; red meat, chicken, fish, vegetarian and a few pastas, a formula that accommodates every palate.
Three daily specials are made from seasonal, local finds. A mixed green salad with dried sour cherries, smoked almonds and toasted pumpkin seed vinaigrette is sweet and savoury, with a nutty dressing. Crispy Duck Rolls are a contemporary spin on ‘duck a l’orange’, with duck confit and cream cheese blended into phyllo pastry with house made orange marmalade. Packed at 5 pm with both wine lovers and wine-makers, the welcoming staff do their best to find any party a comfortable perch, but reservations secure the coveted seats.
Starters $8-12, Mains $18-26.
