13th Street Winery

A big red barn with an old Massey Ferguson tractor makes you think this is a feel-good, home-sweet-home kind-of-place.  However, stylish urbanites, bohemian romantics and in-the-know locals flock to 13th Street Winery for its bespoke, modern appeal. A turn of the century farmhouse has been transformed by owner Karen and Doug Whitty, into a warm and intimate tasting room with French oak floors, white walls and a private art gallery.

A bakery tempts guests to enjoy charcuterie or flatbread pizzas along the tasting bar’s verandah with a glass of a Gamay. Winemaker Jean-Pierre Colas, native of Chablis, creates method traditionnelle Cuvée sparkling wines and the small estate lots are hand-picked and sorted.  Not shy of a good time, 13th Street Winery plays seriously on the special event scene, hosting events like; the Hand-Made Market, and the idyllic ‘Outstanding in the Field’ dinners.

13th Street Winery St Catharines is one of my favourite stops. We often will plan an extra two or three hours into our drive to Niagara just so we can stop and taste the amazing wine and gourmet food. I really love the cheeses! This year we plan to attend the Fall Handmade Market.
